Job title: Young Onset Dementia Advisor
Applications close on date: 22 August 2016
Hours are: Part time
Contract is: Permanent
Job summary: An award-winning charity established in 1998, YoungDementia UK supports working-age people with dementia to live well. We provide face to face support services for the individual and their family in Oxfordshire, email and phone support to families beyond the county and we plan to help improve the lives of people affected by young onset dementia nationally.
Working on your own initiative as part of our small dedicated YODA Service, you will provide individual and group support to people with young onset dementia and their family members. The support is mostly in the community, but includes attending the Cognitive Disorders Clinic at the JR hospital. It involves face to face, by email and phone support mostly within Oxon. Sharing information sensitively, listening, signposting and enabling opportunities to socialise and link with others are all key elements of your role. You will help build confidence within families, including children sometimes, to face the many practical and emotional challenges of young onset dementia.
Your empathy, good listening & communication skills and experience of dementia are all essential. Induction, on-going training and supervision offered.
YDUK team work from home bases, utilising an e-office and you will need to be confident and competent with e-communication.
Location – Oxfordshire – central and south Oxon
