Ceremonial Sword found in central Oxford

This message comes from Thames Valley Police – please contact them directly.

On Sunday 27 August, an antique ceremonial sword was handed in to officers after it was found in the street by a member of the public.

The sword has a number of inscriptions, which are as follows:

“From his affectionate friends Ida and Tom Downing”,
“Edward Thorne of London”,
“B G Baley April 7th 1915”
“Royal Engineers”

We would like to reunite the sword to the rightful owner as it is presumably of sentimental value, if you would like to claim the sword, please bring proof of ownership to the Front Counter at St Aldates Station, Oxford.

Please see our release for images.
