West Oxford Community Primary School – 10th Anniversary Celebration

Dear all,
It is finally here – the programme of 10th anniversary celebrations kicked off yesterday morning with a special school assembly at West Oxford Community Primary School.  LCWO went along to donate a collection of £200-worth of beautiful books about the environment to the school library, for all those young readers to enjoy, and to launch the new West Oxford Tree Trail.
The official launch to the programme is this weekend, with 3 events, and we’d love to see you there!
On Saturday morning, it is our biannual Bring & Take at WOCA (10.30-12.30).  Bring your bike for some pre-winter TLC from Warlands, and share memories of how West Oxford has changed at our community-sourced bike tour stall (more about that later).
In the afternoon, we’re heading to Kingfisher Corner in Botley Park for the family-friendlyWhatever-the-weather Teddy Bears’ Tea Party (3-5pm).  Please bring any odd socks you happen to have at home – we’ll be showing kids how to make ‘smelly socks’, of the good kind…
On Sunday, we’re heading to the coolest new venue in (West) Oxford, for the Beet the Waste food & music fest at the Tap Social (2-5pm).  Join us there for an afternoon of foodie fun, including a live Ready, Steady, Cook! competition, with local chefs battling it out, and music from The Knights of Mentis and Kwassa Kwassa.  Don’t forget to bring your best bake for the veg-based cake competition – your chance to win some free drinks on the day.
Beyond this weekend, there are plenty of other opportunities to get involved.
The full programme (attached – plus on the updated website) includes:
  • Tours of Osney Lock Hydro (various dates);
  • A fab Harvest Festival and LCWO birthday fire at Hogacre Common Eco Park (October 8th);
  • The chance to join our specially-commissioned 8 Breaths air pollution walking tour of West Oxford (various dates);
  • A guided accessible local Tree Trail walk, especially tailored to less mobile residents of all ages (October 20th);
  • The chance to help design the West Oxford community-sourced eco heritage bike tour, followed by its launch!
Plus: keep your eyes peels for our ‘river of life infographic’, telling people all about the first 10 years of our life; local businesses getting involved with special LCWO-themed promotions; and pick up our new West Oxford Tree Trail.
Help us bring business on board and tackle climate change NOW – we’d like YOUR ideas.  First prize: a delicious banquet for you and seven friends! See the attached flyer, and please share with your friends.
If you can spare some time to volunteer at any of the events, we’d love to hear from you.  Please drop Mim a line mim@lcwo.org.uk
