Training at OCVA – How to be a good trustee: Perfect for new and existing trustees!

This course is for new trustees, those thinking about joining a board or existing board members wanting a refresher and update. It aims to provide an overview of the key things you need to know as a trustee. The session will equip you with the knowledge of your responsibilities as a trustee and confidence to know where to go to find out more after the course.

The course covers the role of individual trustees and the nature of their collective responsibility, plus some practical tips about how to be effective and add value to the board. There will also be a chance to find out more about some of the latest developments in the sector.

Trainer Profile 
Joanna Simons CBE has been a charity trustee for over 30 years. She currently chairs Experience Oxfordshire and Shelter’s Audit Finance and Risk Committee, is a board members of the Bucks, Berks and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust and acts as a mentor as part of the Oxfordshire Charity Mentors Scheme.

For the past two years she has been working in a consultancy capacity for the voluntary sector, and as Interim Chief Executive at Alcohol Concern she led the charity through a successful merger with Alcohol Research UK. Prior to this, she was Chief Executive of two local authorities, most recently spending ten years at Oxfordshire County Council.

Joanna is a qualified coach and is currently working on an MSc dissertation focused on ways to support the relationship between Chairs and Chief Executives in smaller charities.
