Role summary: Oxford City Council’s Museum of Oxford is a local social history museum that tells the story of Oxford and its people and with a busy outreach programme for schools, community groups and the wider public.

The Museum is embarking upon a GBP 3m, Heritage Lottery Funded (HLF) supported project of Oxford’s Hidden Histories. This will open up and share the heritage of the city’s communities through stories that radiate out from the historic Town Hall building at its centre through making objects currently in store accessible; uncovering archival records mapping the City’s development; and exploring Oxford’s intangible heritage through the memories of local people. In addition, it will enable the museum to develop as a community hub; for people to engage in exploring the heritage to inform their lives today and to take a pride in sharing and celebrating their city’s story.

We are seeking to appoint a new role of Community Engagement and Exhibitions Officer, to support on the development and delivery of partnerships, community, public and exhibitions programmes and activities.

With a planned reopening date of July 2020, work on the activities will start in Autumn 2018 and on the building in Spring 2019, so this is a great opportunity for the successful candidate to be involved at the early stages of the project

Job location (usual place of work): Oxford Town Hall

Pay rate: SalaryG5: £25,307 to £27,125 per annum – (pro rata for part time)

Develop and deliver outreach and community based activities and events as outlined in the HLF Activity Plan as part of the ‘Oxford’s Hidden Histories’ project

The post holder will be part of a wider learning team and will help deliver the aims of Oxford’s Hidden Histories’ project and to raise the profile of the museum with local communities.
