1. An Introduction to Children and Young People’s Mental Health Training

This training is for front line practitioners working with children and young people.

The course uses a non-clinical approach to explore child and adolescent development and mental health, risk and vulnerability factors, early signs of mental health issues, how to support young people experience mental health difficulties and how to signpost to local specialist services.

The training has been designed by Young Devon and is endorsed by Exeter University and supported by Young Minds and Esmee Fairbarn.

2. Understanding Young People’s Challenging Behaviour Training

Training is volunteers and staff members working with children and young people.

The workshop explores what challenging behaviour is, what causes/affects challenging behaviour and how to deal with challenging behaviour as it arises. The workshop explores de-escalation techniques as well as offering practical guidance to how to support young people after challenging behaviour occurs. The workshop explores how restorative practice teaches young people to self-regulate their behaviour and has been found to be very effective in improving behaviour in youth organisations.

Understanding Young People’s Challenging Behaviour:
In this workshop, we touch upon what challenging behaviour is and where it might be coming from. We will explore de-escalation techniques and ways to re-integrate young people into the wider group through restorative practice.

3. Principles of Youth Work Training

An ideal introductory workshop to youth work for people working with children and young people in a youth work setting.

This course explores the role of youth workers, models and values of youth work and theories about planning youth work programmes. Practical activities will help you explore your own values as a youth worker and how these influence your youth work practice, explore how young people learn and how to incorporate this learning into your session plans. This course will also encourage participants to explore how they can promote inclusive youth work practices and promote equality and diversity.
