At OCVA, the Volunteer Centre for Oxford City, South Oxfordshire, and the Vale, we are always delighted to hear from people interested in volunteering. It’s inspiring to see so many people keen to lend a hand in Oxfordshire.
We want to help as many people to volunteer as possible – and so we’re changing our volunteer appointment process. These changes will help us reach more people around Oxfordshire.
From mid September,we will be holding two Introduction to Volunteering sessions a month.
Sessions will take place at OCVA, Floyds’ Row, Oxford OX1 1SS, at the following times:
- Second Wednesday of the month: 10.30 am
- Fourth Wednesday of the month: 1.00 pm
These sessions include a workshop lasting 20 minutes, followed by an opportunity for questions and support. The sessions are drop in but please let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to come along.
What does this mean for one-to-one appointments? If you attend an Introduction to Volunteering session, there will be the opportunity to ask questions and get some one-to-one time. OCVA believe that volunteering be inclusive, so we will still be running some one-to-one volunteer appointments for volunteers with additional support needs (on a self-defined basis). You can also still email email@example.com for volunteering advice and brokerage.
If I want to volunteer, what’s my first step? Oxonvolunteers.org is the countywide volunteering website where you can search for opportunities by keyword or category. This is the central portal to find volunteering opportunities in Oxfordshire and we encourage everyone interested in volunteering to have a look on this site first to see if something sparks interest.
I don’t know where to start, or how to get involved? That’s where our Introduction to Volunteering comes in! In our fortnightly sessions, we’ll look at the benefits of volunteering, how to get involved, what to expect, and the range of opportunities available, including examples. If you’d like to come to a session, we encourage you to let us know first: give us a call on 01865 251946, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
When do the sessions start? The first session will be on Wednesday 26th September at 1.00 pm.
We’re excited to reach more people around Oxfordshire with this new approach to volunteer advice. We hope to see you at a future session!
