OCVA is working in partnership with Cherwell District Council to deliver FREE training for people within the Voluntary and Community Sector in Cherwell. As part of its support to the Voluntary and Community Sector, Cherwell District Council has agreed to fund a range of training sessions from Oxford Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA).
Staff and volunteers from Voluntary and Community sector organisations based within Cherwell District Council boundary and/or provide services within Cherwell district can register for free training on any of the sessions below.
All events will take place at Cherwell District Council, Bodicote House, White Post Rd, Bodicote, Banbury OX15 4AA.

- Recruiting and Retaining Volunteers
Tuesday 16th April 2019 (10.00am – 1.00pm)
An action-packed session filled with practical suggestions and plenty of opportunities to share ideas on how to recruit volunteers and keep hold of them! Volunteer recruitment is a constant challenge for many organisations. This workshop will explore national and local trends in motivations to volunteer and barriers inhibiting volunteering. Equipped with this knowledge you will have the chance to critique current volunteer recruitment campaigns, analyse new and innovative ways for working and learn about current developments in the sector. - Managing Volunteers
Tuesday 14th May 2019 (10.00am – 4.00pm)
The content will cover volunteer inductions, effective communication with volunteers, strategies for maintaining volunteer motivation and how to deal with difficult situations involving volunteers. There will be opportunities throughout the workshop for discussion and reflection on your current approach to volunteer management, as well as practical suggestions for you to implement. - Manager’s Breakfast
Wednesday 22nd May 2019 (8.30am – 10.00am)
An opportunity of any Managers of Charities, Social Enterprises and other groups to meet to network, discover new opportunities, build your client/customer base and tap into the community in your area – all at breakfast! This is an interactive session designed to highlight the benefits of networking including the importance of forging productive relationships with key individuals/organisations. - Big Lottery Session
Friday 14th June 2019 (10.00am – 4.00pm)
If you are in the process of applying or thinking of applying for a Reaching Communities grant from the Big Lottery then come along and discuss it with the Funding Officer covering the Thames Valley area.
