Job description: The Governors of East Oxford Primary School wish to appoint a successor to its long-serving and much respected Clerk who is retiring. The role of Clerk is central to the effective organisation of Governing Body work and a valuable source of expertise. EOPS has just been rated as continuing to be ‘Good’ and ‘knocking on the door of Outstanding’ by Ofsted’s Inspector, who described the Governors as ‘passionate’ about the school and the difference it makes to the lives of children.
Hours of work: approximately 136 hours per year. Meetings rarely last for more than two hours and are normally scheduled for 5pm-7pm (Full Governing Body, FGB) or earlier in the afternoon, typically 4pm-6pm (committees). A schedule of meetings is agreed at the annual meeting. Governors are anxious to keep to it, but occasionally a date may have to be changed to meet unforeseen circumstances. The Clerk’s availability must be taken into account.
