JOB VACANCY: Oxford Wood Recycling – Counter Sales/Customer Service (p/t)

Role summary: Counter sales/ Customer Service (Part Time – Saturdays).

You’ll provide counter sales and customer service on Saturday’s at our Abingdon Woodshop. Operating the till, helping customers choose the wood for their projects, helping them stay safe in the Woodshop, carrying to car and re-sizing wood on the cross cut and table saw (after training of course).

Our sales team are able to safely lift and carry timber and panel board and work well as a team in working safely and within their capacity. They are able to complete regulatory paperwork and communicate well with customers.

Twinned with the social mission is the environmental aim to increase the reuse of wood and timber in the community by recovering timber from commercial waste streams and promoting its re-use via sales and information at the Woodshop – an Alladins cave of reclaimed timber based at the Abingdon site.

Job description: You will be a member of the 3-person Saturday sales team providing customer service at the Woodshop in Abingdon. The Woodshop operations involves making sales, assisting customers with choosing materials and ancillary or manufactured products, booking deliveries, processing sales and re-sizing materials in line with company policy to enable customers to pay for and carry away their order.

Reports to: The Saturday Sales Supervisor.

Core responsibilities.
To contribute to the sales team at OWR in delivering high quality customer service and maximising Saturday sales of timber, manufactured and ancillary products.
Duties:
o Operating opening and closing procedures at The Woodshop
o Serving customers at the sales desk and in the warehouse.
o Clearly record and process orders for manufacture, wood processing and delivery.
o Cutting timber to size for customers, using bench equipment.
o Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe sales floor and workshop.
o Responding to sales enquiries by phone, social media and email.

Other activities.
o To work with the Health and Safety Officer to implement safe working practices on site (training given).
o Updating the Ebay shop to reflect items sold on Friday evening or Saturday.

Essential attributes.
An interest in the social and environmental objectives of the organisation.
Customer service skills and experience.
An interest in wood and woodworking.
Ability after training, to operate a till and credit card machine.
Ability after training to operate saws (for resizing timber)
Ability to safely lift and carry materials.
Basic Administration skills and experience.
Computer literate.

Not essential, but desirable attributes.
Knowledge of timber and woodworking
Basic wood working skills. Using social media.
