JSNA: Monthly unemployment claimant count data for Oxfordshire

March 25, 2021

The latest monthly unemployment claimant count data has been released today, see article on Oxfordshire Insight.  This shows:

  • An increase for Oxfordshire, up from 16,155 claimants in January 2021 to 17,260 in February 2021 (+6.8%).
  • By district in February 2021, the rate of unemployment claimants (as a percentage of the economically active population aged 16-64) was highest in Oxford City followed by Cherwell.
  • By age group, the rate was highest in Oxfordshire (and England) for claimants aged 16-24.
  • Note that this does not include people on the Coronavirus Job Retention scheme, which is now due to finish at the end of September 2021.  As of 31 December 2020, there were 37,300 furloughed employments in Oxfordshire, a take-up of 11% compared with 13% take-up across England.

You can explore claimant data for small areas and data by age using our interactive dashboard on Oxfordshire Insight.

Thanks as ever to John Courouble and Alick Bird for their work on these updates.
