National Volunteers Week & OCVA’s Volunteering Month – events planned

National Volunteers Week logoNational Volunteers’ Week takes place 1-7 June every year and is an opportunity to celebrate and say thank you for the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK. The Volunteers’ Week website is packed with ideas, resources and volunteering stories to help you plan and promote your local events.

OCVA is going one better and using the whole of June to showcase the range of volunteering opportunities on offer throughout Oxfordshire. So now is the time to start thinking of ideas and planning your campaigns. Once you have done that let us know and we will promote it and put it in our calendar of events.  Email your volunteer events to:  pulse@ocva.org.uk

During the month and in the lead up to it we are holding the following virtual events: 

1. Training session for volunteer managers on Volunteers Week Tuesday 25th May at 1 p.m.

Target Audience This session is aimed at those who recruit or manage volunteers.

Content   This session will focus on helping groups to promote their volunteering opportunities via oxonvolunteers and help them develop activities for National Volunteer Week (1-6 June) and OCVA’s Volunteering Month (June)

2. Volunteer 1-1’s (support session with volunteers) Wednesday 2nd June from 10am – 4pm. (volunteers to book)

Target Audience  This session is aimed at people looking to volunteer with local charities

Content  These 1-1 sessions will help you to identify potential volunteering opportunities within Oxfordshire.

3. Funding Session: funding volunteer programmes and expenses 8th June 1pm-3pm.

With John Hayes Development & Funding Officer) and Tariq Khandoker (Volunteer Co-ordinator)

Target Audience  Organisations looking for funding to develop their volunteering programmes.

Content  This training session will look at how to research possible funding for volunteers and how:

  • To mainstream volunteering costs as part of funding applications
  • To incorporate ‘full cost recovery’ including volunteering costs when applying for funding
  • Use volunteers time as match funding
  • Measure the impact of volunteering
  • Identify 6 potential funders

4. Support session or organisations looking for volunteers – 16th June from 10am- 4pm. (organisations to book)

Target Audience  Organisations looking to recruit volunteers

Content  This is a 1-1 session that will last up 45 minutes, during which you will learn how to use oxonvolunteers more effectively in order to promote your volunteering opportunities via oxonvolunteers and recruit more effectively.

5. Trustees Get together and Forum – Thursday 22nd June – at 4 pm (provisionally)

Target Audience  This is a forum for existing Trustees to share their experience with potential trustees

Content Discussion on the roles of Trustees and share learning

Overview of the different types of charities in Oxfordshire

Identify possible Trustee Opportunities available in the county
