Volunteers Week
Well, that’s a wrap then folks!
Volunteers Week has taken centre stage here at OCVA this last week and we couldn’t be prouder. Laura was interviewed for BBC radio Oxford’s Adam Ball show last week to kick things off- have a listen from 1h 15 to hear Laura and Beth from Dementia Active talk about volunteering. On Thursday June 1st we then ran our Volunteer Drop-In at our training room The Source. We welcomed members of the public to come and ask questions, find out about suitable opportunities, and discuss what volunteering roles might be best for them. It was clear that those who came really appreciated the face-to-face opportunity and this is something we are keen to do again. We would like to take these drop-ins across the county, so please do watch this space for more dates.
We have been promoting the volunteering journeys of other organisations across Oxfordshire and a big thank you goes out to:
- Helen at Dementia Active
- Keith from Volunteer Connect
- Connie from The Story Museum
- Barry and his driver and client, from Volunteer Link-Up
- Maya and Eva at Oxford Brookes
- Dawn for her article and help with social media
The stories are still live on our website and please do go and take a read. The perspectives are very different and really showcase how varied volunteering is for both those who look after volunteers and for those who volunteer.

Many events are still taking place across the county as Volunteers Week events extend- our calendar of Volunteer events is available to browse and promote if you can.
We received 60 nominations for our Volunteering Awards which will be held on June 28th, a big thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate. We will be in touch with the winning nominees soon.
This year’s theme for Volunteers week is to celebrate and inspire and I really do hope that we have helped you do this with our articles and support. Of course, Volunteers need to be celebrated and inspired all year long and if you ever want support as an organisation please do get in touch. Anyone wanting to volunteer can take a look at Oxon Volunteers or get in touch for a chat.
