As infrastructure organisations supporting the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector across Berkshire and Oxfordshire, we wanted to share an important update regarding Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).
This week, the Government announced that it is reviewing Local Government Reorganisation decisions across England following new legal advice. As part of this review, previously announced decisions affecting Oxfordshire and West Berkshire have been paused while the Government reassesses the process and next steps.
Like many organisations across our communities, we were surprised to learn of this announcement at short notice. We recognise that it may raise questions and create uncertainty for voluntary and community organisations, particularly those that have been engaging with partners and preparing for potential changes to local government structures.
While there is currently limited information about what the review will mean in practice, we are working closely with partners across the region to understand the implications for communities and the VCFSE sector. We remain committed to ensuring the sector’s voice is heard throughout this process and to keeping organisations informed as further information emerges.
Read the Government’s announcement.
In the meantime, our organisations remain here to support charities, community groups, social enterprises and faith organisations across Berkshire and Oxfordshire. We will continue to share updates and opportunities for engagement as soon as we know more.
