Name of volunteer: Mary Read
How did you get involved in volunteering
My sister encouraged me to think about doing it
Describe a typical volunteering session:
I am an usher at Chipping Norton Theatre. When I arrive I listen to the ushers’ briefing so I know what the show is and if there are any special instructions. The volunteers check the auditorium is ready for the audience, greet the customers, check their tickets and usher them into the auditorium when it’s ready. We monitor the audience during the production and deal with any issues. At the end of a show the volunteers say goodbye and thank you to the audience as they leave. We also hand out any exit flyers, to encourage people to come back again before clearing up the auditorium after the show.
What difference do you think you make through your volunteering?
It means the theatre can keep going as it reduces costs.

I enjoy the atmosphere and seeing the shows.
