Overview

This is an action packed session filled with practical suggestions and plenty of opportunities to share ideas on how to recruit volunteers and keep hold of them!

Volunteer recruitment is a constant challenge for many organisations. This workshop will explore people’s motivations to volunteer and the barriers inhibiting volunteering. Equipped with this knowledge you will have the chance to critique current volunteer recruitment campaigns, analyse new and innovative ways for working and learn about current developments in the sector in Oxfordshire and how OCVA can help.

There will be opportunities throughout the session to reflect on your current methods of recruitment and volunteer management. OCVA’s Volunteer Co-ordinator will offer his thoughts on how to retain volunteers based on conversations with clients in the Volunteer Centre and the findings of national research.

Trainer profile

Tariq Khandoker is the Development Officer / Volunteer Centre Coordinator at OCVA. He has previously worked in the North of England with a number of charities and social enterprises over a 15-year period. First as a Funding Officer and then as a Development Officer (on governance issues) and eventually as an Operations Manager with an infrastructure organisation and subsequently with a social enterprise. In his current role at OCVA, he works to raise the profile of volunteering and helps organisations to achieve their outcomes through the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers. This involves helping organisations promote their work and their volunteering opportunities through print and electronic media as well as managing Oxfordshire’s premier volunteering brokerage site “oxonvolunteers.org”. He also actively engages with prospective volunteers, helping them to build their confidence and skill set in order to secure their ideal volunteering role.
