An action packed session filled with practical suggestions and plenty of opportunities to share ideas on how to recruit volunteers and keep hold of them!
Volunteer recruitment is a constant challenge for many organisations. This workshop will explore national and local trends in motivations to volunteer and barriers inhibiting volunteering. Equipped with this knowledge you will have the chance to critique current volunteer recruitment campaigns, analyse new and innovative ways for working and learn about current developments in the sector in Oxfordshire.
There will be opportunities throughout the session to reflect on your current methods of recruitment and volunteer management. OCVA’s Volunteer Co-ordinator will offer her thoughts on how to retain volunteers based on conversations with clients in the Volunteer Centre and the findings of national research.
Emily Shaw is OCVA’s Volunteer Coordinator and is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management in Managing Volunteers. She previously worked as a school teacher in large comprehensives in Wakefield so enjoys including plenty of activities to make training session interactive and keep participants on their toes. Emily delivers bespoke training to meet specific needs and currently works with voluntary organisations across sector and county to share knowledge of the success of strategies. As the Volunteer Centre Coordinator, she has first hand experience and insights from volunteers who are looking for opportunities in Oxfordshire.
By the end of this session you will be able to
- Identify what motivates people to start volunteering
- Reflect on the volunteering opportunities currently offered by your organisation
- Describe a range of methods for delivering a volunteer recruitment campaign
- Reflect on why volunteers leave your organisation
- Identify strategies and approaches to aid volunteer retention.
