The innovative use of published open data to drive a more efficient voluntary and community sector is high on our agenda; for Oxfordshire as well as for the UK more generally. For this we have been working on a web app concept since 2013. We call this app Data for Good.
We are leading on the publication and use of big data in the UK non-profit sector. Consulting with staff from NCVO, 360Giving, Code for America and others one of our staff (as a volunteer) developed a UK standard for the publication of open data on non-profit groups. This is available for use and forking on GitHub and is published under a Creative Commons License.
This is provided by Data Evolution – a project backed by DataKind UK, Data Orchard, with support from Teradata, NESTA, Esmeé Fairbairn Foundation, and ACCESS. The list is a good central place to find UK contacts and activity regarding data projects in our sector. (It’s important that effort is coordinated so that data becomes interoperable. The more interoperable data is, the bigger the insights and social change can be as a result of its use.)
