Connected Communities Fund Stories: Nourishing Community Connections: A Heartwarming Visit to Charlbury Lunch Club

April 18, 2024

On April 17, 2024, I had the privilege of visiting Charlbury Lunch Club, a vibrant community hub that brings people together through nourishing meals, engaging activities, and genuine human connection.

Tanya, the chair of trustees, warmly welcomed me as she whirled through the kitchen, preparing a delicious meal for the attendees.

Tanya shared that the lunch club operates on Wednesday’s from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm, offering a perfect blend of social interaction, nutritious meals, and stimulating activities. Attendees have an opportunity to connect with one another, play games, and enjoy entertainment such as local musicians. When asked about the Connected Communities Fund, Tanya expressed, “The funding has made such a difference, it has made us feel secure and we know we can carry on.”

This sense of security from the fund has allowed the club to flourish, transcending the traditional notion of a “day centre.” Coordinator Kath, the heart of Charlbury Lunch Club, creates an environment that radiates warmth and acceptance. Her inclusive approach ensures that every voice is heard and valued, fostering a profound sense of belonging that breaks down barriers.

As I joined the attendees, Kath led us in an engaging word search activity, sparking shared laughter and a spirit of togetherness. For many attendees, the Charlbury Lunch Club is more than just a social outing – it’s a lifeline that provides regularity and something to look forward to, as one attendee poignantly shared, “This is the highlight of my week!”

Led by dedicated individuals like Tanya and Kath, the Charlbury Lunch Club is more than just a lunch club – it’s a haven of inclusivity and comfort.  Charlbury lunch club has an open invitation to new members and a call for volunteers, the club eagerly seeks to expand its circle of warmth and friendship, find out more information below.
