Well Together Learnings

While there is already a strong body of national, regional and local research exploring the links between health, wellbeing, community connection, and physical activity, our reports are intentionally focused on highlighting the wealth of activity already taking place locally and our approach towards supporting it.

Rather than repeating existing evidence, we want to shine a light on the VCFSE organisations, community groups, and grassroots initiatives that are making a difference every day across the ten priority areas of Oxfordshire. By showcasing local experiences, partnerships, and opportunities, we aim to celebrate what is already working and raise greater awareness of it.

Understanding the role of local community activity and trusted VCFSE organisations is increasingly important in the context of NHS transformation and the move towards neighbourhood health set out in the NHS 10 Year Plan.

Community-based groups are often best placed to engage people earlier, build trusted relationships, reduce isolation, and support healthier lifestyles before needs escalate into more intensive health interventions. Recognising and working alongside these local assets can help shape more preventative, person-centred approaches to health promotion and illness prevention, with services designed around the strengths, needs, and choices of local communities rather than relying solely on traditional clinical models.
