The National Lottery Community Fund have funding programmes open to local groups who want to take practical steps to make a positive difference to the environment and help people connect with nature in their area.
National Lottery Awards for All England – Environment grants range from £300 to £20,000 and Reaching Communities England grants range from £20,001 to £20m.
Communities across the area are taking practical, everyday environmental action from repair cafés in busy high streets to communities reclaiming small pockets of land for wildlife. From volunteers planting native trees for long term environmental change to community gardens.
You don’t need to be an environmental organisation – funding is available for everyday community groups taking action close to home.
For Awards for All Environment grants they are interested in funding a wide range of projects including:
- Climate adaptation and resilience projects
- Youth‑led or climate action
- Community growing and food projects
- Repair, reuse and waste‑reduction activities
- Greener community buildings and shared spaces
- Nature and wildlife projects close to home
- Transport decarbonisation projects
For Reaching Communities England they are interested in projects that help communities take action on climate and nature. Projects should be doing one of the following:
- empower people to engage with climate issues and adapt to the impacts of a changing climate.
- support communities to take part in activities to make a positive environmental impact, like reducing carbon emissions or creating space for wildlife.
- help communities to have access to nature, by increasing the amount and quality of natural space for wildlife. Meaning that people can experience nature around them, and that more varieties of wildlife can thrive.
