Training for Volunteers

OCVA have partnered with Abingdon and Witney College to provide free training courses for volunteers across Oxfordshire.

We recognise volunteers value the opportunity for further training and support, both in-person and online.

Course details are added to this page as we have them, but if you have any further questions, comments or feedback do let us know at vol@ocva.org.uk

Training coming soon in 2026…

  • Managing difficult situations and conversations
  • Understanding social media
  • Supporting others to succeed

Commonly Asked Questions

How does the booking process work?

Volunteers will be able to book themselves onto the course directly with the College.

Where do you book?

The college will have details on the posters but it will be by phone or email.

What if my volunteer doesn’t live in Oxfordshire?

Courses will be open to those volunteering in Oxfordshire.

How about numbers/sizes of courses?

This will depend on the location (as space of venues varies) but most courses are 8-16. Waiting lists will be taken when courses are full so we can offer them at a later date if there is sufficient demand.

How will the courses be advertised?

OCVA will lead on advertising via the forum, Pulse and our website. The college may do some advertising via their channels.

How long will the courses be?

They will be one-off workshops. The time will depend on content, and if the course is in-person or online, but generally we anticipate they will be between 2-4 hours.

Should we advertise this to all volunteers or just those we think might benefit?

This is completely your choice, while we are in the pilot stage, we don’t know what the demand will be so feel free to share to all and flag to those who might benefit.

Is there any paperwork involved?

Abingdon and Witney College will ask all participants to complete paperwork for each course. This is to maintain their records and keep information regarding learners.

Will I get a certificate?

Certificates of attendance can be sent via email after the course, if you would like this please enquire when signing up and ensure to provide a correct email address.

Are there any requirements on age and residency of volunteers?

Learners have to be 19+ as of 31st August, 2024, and resident for 3 years or more in the UK. This is to comply with the college’s funding requirements.

Please share any feedback on these courses to vol@ocva.org.uk.
