FUNDING: The Big Give

May 19, 2026

Big Give’s Christmas Challenge is a seven-day online match funding campaign supporting registered charities, to raise more through public donations.

The campaign is open to charities working across a wide range of causes, including poverty, equality, climate change, mental wellbeing and support for vulnerable, disadvantaged or underrepresented people.

Participating charities can access match funding of up to £25,000, helping to double eligible donations made by the public through Big Give’s platform during the campaign week. Charities must secure part of their match funding pot from their own supporters, known as pledgers, and may then be awarded additional Champion funding from Big Give partners.

How to apply

To be eligible, charities must be registered with the Charity Commission, or have recognised tax-exempt status, and have an annual income of at least £25,000. Charities must aim to raise at least £2,000 and up to £50,000 in public donations, which can support specific projects, core costs or capital costs. Charities applying for Champion funds are limited to a maximum of 10% of their annual income.

Applications for the 2026 Christmas Challenge are open until 5pm on 3 July 2026. Key dates include the pledge deadline on 28 August 2026, the offer deadline on 7 October 2026, and the campaign week from 1 to 8 December 2026.
