Volunteers Week- that’s a wrap!

June 9, 2026

Many of you will have been celebrating Volunteers Week last week, which is now 42 years old!

To mark the occasion OCVA shared a range of stories about volunteering and Oxford Clarion published an article from us highlighting volunteering in Oxfordshire.

During the week we hosted a own volunteer drop-in at our offices too. Volunteers appreciate the opportunity to talk to someone face-to-face about finding a new role for them and this year we met with a wide variety of volunteers, many of whom are looking for a new role alongside existing volunteering.

One gentleman told us: “It was a pleasure to meet you last week and I can confirm that I have now been in touch with MNDA. This looks like a great opportunity for me, and I will let you know how it goes!”

Another attendee said: “I love the befriending I do; I am going there after this. But I need something more, and it is great I can come back to OCVA for advice as you found me my last role.”

Volunteers also spoke to us about some of the issues they have encountered. One volunteer told us of the challenge in finding the right fit for them, within travelling distance of their home and with a focus on helping others and having time to be social. Another volunteer spoke about how they had applied for a role and were waiting weeks for a reply.

If you are interested in volunteering please visit Oxon Volunteers or contact us directly for support.

If you are looking to develop your volunteering programme we can help you, drop an email to vol@ocva.org.uk and we can arrange a support call.
