Connecting Watlington’s community groups and residents
Watlington is home to a wide range of volunteer-led groups, clubs and community activities. From local events and social groups to practical support and opportunities to get involved, these groups play a huge part in making Watlington such a fantastic place to live.
mywatlington was created to help bring this community activity together in one place. Through a growing community website and local information and networking meetings, mywatlington helps residents find out what’s on, discover local groups, and feel more connected to community life.
Helping people find what’s happening locally
The idea for mywatlington began in 2023, when the new team of Parish Councillors recognised the importance of supporting the people behind Watlington’s many volunteer groups and clubs.
Initial research identified more than 50 local groups, but it also showed that many did not have websites or an easy way for new people to find out about them.
With the support of local volunteers, the mywatlington website was developed to give groups a simple shared platform and make community information easier to access.
Today, mywatlington supports more than 60 local volunteer groups and continues to grow as awareness increases.
What mywatlington offers
The website is developing all the time and now includes:
- A What’s On calendar
- Special events
- Information about venues for hire
- Useful local information, including buses
- Details of local groups and clubs.
By making this information easier to find, mywatlington helps residents connect with the activities, support and people around them.
Bringing groups together
As well as sharing information online, mywatlington has created opportunities for local groups to meet, network and discuss the support they need.
One of the ideas that came out of these early meetings was a community event that could profile and promote Watlington’s local volunteer groups, while also bringing people together for a fun, welcoming day.
In 2025, the newly formed Summer Event team organised an afternoon of community stalls, children’s entertainment, a dog show, craft stalls and music, followed by an evening ceilidh with a bar and BBQ. It was a great example of what can happen when local people come together to support and celebrate their community.
Party in the Park
This year, the summer event has grown even further. The team has expanded and the event has become Party in the Park, with a Summer Fayre, an evening of live music, and a day of picnic and play. Find out more about Party in the Park.
